Learn With Me

I am currently employed as an Early Learning Teacher Consultant in a B.C. school district one day a week and also work for the B.C. Ministry of Education in the Provincial Outreach Program for the Early Years (POPEY). My availability for workshops and webinars is extremely limited. School districts & Independent Schools interested in working with me outside of my professional employment as a teacher consultant can contact me here to inquire about my independent consulting services. Topics I am available to consult on independently include risky play in schools, outdoor play and learning in schools, and pedagogies of place and play in the school context.

Projects & Consulting 2024/ 2025

1. My doctoral dissertation research project is coming to completion! This was a critical participatory action research (CPAR) project with teachers from across British Columbia to better understand how outdoor play and learning (OPAL) is enacted in our schools. You can access publications from this study here and you can check out the tool we collectively built as a digital colleague for elementary school teachers here.  The tool includes 16 modules, alongside a comprehensive speaker series. The entire resource is FREE for teachers and designed as a lunch and learn for professional dialogue within school communities of practice.

2. The Active Outdoor Play 10-yr Anniversary Project (AOP10) I’m part of an international team of researchers conducting a systematic review. We are examining how teachers animate OPAL in elementary schools all over the world. Stay tuned for this publication. Learn more about Outdoor Play Canada and the 10 year anniversary project here.

3. I am continuing in my role as the Communications Director of the Environmental Educators’ Provincial Specialist Association (EEPSA) Learn more about our work and consider joining a local chapter here.

4. I am pleased to have reviewed the B.C. K-3 Climate Literacy Teacher Resource. Learn more about K-12 climate change Education in BC here

7. I was glad to contribute to the Canadian Centre for Outdoor Play Framework. The purpose of this evidence-informed Framework was to achieve consensus and serve as a pedagogical document that will promote consistency in training and supporting outdoor ECE practitioners across Canada in their work. You can access the document here:  Educators Teaching Educators: Canada’s Outdoor Early Childhood Education Continuous Professional Learning Framework

8. I am honoured to be a general member on the board of directors of Outdoor Play Canada. Read more about the important work of this organization here.
